CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR, the CNN correspondent, reported that the Iraq War is a disaster by any metric. It apparently stemmed from the fact that a senior network anchor was seriously injured.
Since celebrity reporters are no longer safe, American policy must be changed.
She should be fired as a reported today, or reassigned as a talking head.
It does not take a genius to figure out why Americans are turning away from all news media, disgusted with celebrity opinions masquerading as "objective reporting". The irony of it all is that, as a reporter, having your face on TV or your byline in newspapers turns you into a celebrity, and thus, you feel obliged to let the ignorant masses... the mere mortals... know your opionion, thus undermining your credibility in the job what made you a celebrity in the first place...
From my personal experience (and bigoted/prejuficed point of view, based only that every one of them that I know personally fits the bill), TV reporters are TV reporters because they: 1) are quite vain, 2) are dumber than most people you know, 3) are trying to change the world.
The old saw about Power Corrupts is sickeningly evident every day on every channel during the "News Hour". Celebrity is far more corrosive than money in that regard. The power of Television to transform mortals into Gods and the danger therein should be obvious to all by now.
Perhaps the only group less qualified in America to drive "the car" that is our national being are politicians. C'mon... We are Texas oilmen... we all know GW, we all like him, we love his wife, and most of us have a photo of him with a bunch of us hammered drunk holding beers at some long forgotten party 20 years ago. We know he is a decent, truthful guy. We were happy that "one of us" made it to the Big Leagues, but... All of us know at least 500 people personally that we would rather trust our future with, and at least 5000 people we would prefer over a Kennedy/Kerry/Schumer/Feinber/Boxer/Hugo Chavez pick .
Something is devastatingly wrong when I can count the politicans or previous politicians I know that I respect as being both a decent human being and intensely bright on one hand. Nearly one finger.
But you can trust me... I speak anonymously. Coward that I am.
